The choir booster meeting for December will be held in the AUDITORIUM FOYER at 5:00 pm It is supposed to be cold tomorrow, so please make sure that you bring bags to cover your plants and that you keep them in a warm place. ☺

Solo/Ensemble, Poinsettia, Boosters

November 29, 2010

Dear Parents and Students,

  • Just a reminder that tomorrow is poinsettia pick up from 2:00-5:00 pm in the Auditorium. Please be sure to deliver the plants within 24 hours and do not store in a cold place (ie. Car, garage, etc.)
  • December's Choir Booster meeting is tomorrow immediately following the poinsettia pickup in the auditorium foyer. The outside auditorium entrance will be unlocked.
  • Solo/Ensemble – Attached you will find information regarding Solo/Ensemble contest for HS choir and band students. The contest date is Saturday, March 5th in Rushville. Mr. Wetmore and I are consolidating our forms so that the students in both choir and band only have to complete one piece of paper. Please read the information carefully as there are some changes in practice from years past. Please note this is an optional event and students are not required to attend.
First, priority for ensemble placement will be given to students taking solos in the respective instrument or voice. If there is room and need, we will then place students in ensembles who are not taking solos. Students taking a solo need to pay $20.00 per solo event to an accompanist unless their teacher, parent or family friend agree to play for them for free. The school will pay for the accompanist for choral ensembles.
Second, students will be asked to sing and/or play their music when we get back from holiday break. The music doesn't need to be perfect, but it needs to be 90% learned and "on its' way". If a student does not "certify" (know their part), they will not be entered in the contest.
The forms are due next Tuesday, December 7th. Solo/Ensemble is a great experience and I hope that many students choose to take on the challenge!

Thanks and have a great week!

Mrs. Butcher

Choir Lessons and Solo/Ensemble Contest Sign Up

November 22, 2010

Dear junior high choir parents,

Attached is the lesson schedule for next week. It is "seventh grade week". If students cannot attend their lesson for a good reason (not an "I forgot"), this is just a reminder that students need to complete a "lesson excuse form" and have it into me within three days of the missed lesson. Several students have missed lessons and since we haven't had a concert, missed lesson are giving many students a less than desirable grade in choir. The concert is December 6th and is worth 200 points, so that will raise their grades. Eighth graders are being asked to attend a rehearsal with the seventh grade on Thursday, December 2nd in the auditorium from 1:55 – 2:11 pm to rehearse a combined piece.

Secondly, tomorrow is the day that the solo/ensemble forms are due for students who are interested in attending the Saturday, February 19th contest. If you have an accompanist preference, please write down their names. You are welcome to find an accompanist "off the list" if you have a "contact". ☺

Thanks so much!
Erin Stegall

Junior High Solo/Ensemble Contest in Qunicy, Illinois

November 17, 2010

Dear Parents and Music friends,

Attached you will find information regarding solo/ensemble concert for junior high choir and band students. We gave this information to the students today, but just in case you don't receive it or lose it, here is another copy. The date of the contest is Saturday, February 19th in Quincy, Illinois.

Mr. Mattsey and I are consolidating our form so that the students in both choir and band only have to complete one piece of paper ☺ . Please read the information carefully as there are some changes in practice from years past.

As far as conflicts go, there is an 8th grade girls volleyball tournament and the Canton Invitational Wrestling meet (both 7th and 8th grade) on that day. This music contest is not required for choral students, but I mention these conflicts in case students are in these activities.

The forms and checks for accompanist are due on Tuesday, November 23rd.

Solo Ensemble is a great experience and I hope that many students choose to take on the challenge!

Sincerely,

Erin Stegall
