HS Choir Update – It's a long one! ☺

September 24, 2010

Dear Parents and Students,

  • All Choir members will perform at Stunt Night this Thursday, September 30, at 7:00 pm
    • 6:45 pm – call time: students in seats in gym
    • 7:00 pm – Stunt Night begins
    • Dress – black choir t-shirt and jeans
    • If you are in other activities, you may put your t-shirt on over your other outfits (i.e., band, cheerleading, dance, football, etc). Make sure that your name/initials are on the tag of your shirt.
    • Students may leave after the choir performs.
    • This is a performance worth 75 points.
  • The Choir lesson schedule for next week is attached. This is a required week where students need to sing off their choir music. If a student is unable to make their assigned time, please let me know and we will arrange a time that works for them. I also have lunch and afterschool times available.
  • WIU Choral Music Education and Leadership Workshop, Thursday, October 14 – Concert Choir has been invited to attend this workshop at WIU during the day. More information will follow next week.
  • IMEA District Auditions – Please find the attached memo regarding specific information for District Auditions. Just a reminder: There are practice recordings on our website, MacombChoirs.org. Please encourage your child to take advantage of this resource.
  • Mark your Calendar – Our Fall Choir Concert is just around the corner: Wednesday, October 6, at 7:00 pm

District Choir Sign up

September 23, 2010

Dear parents,

Tomorrow is the absolute deadline for your children to sign up for IMEA district choir auditions on Columbus Day, Monday, October 11, at PORTA in Petersburg, Illinois.

I have attached a permission slip in case your child decides to be a last minute entry. The fee for auditions is $10.00. I have also attached the District Choir Master list. The master list contains the students who have indicated they want to audition.

District Choir Extra Practice

Dear Parents of students auditioning for district choir,

I am willing to stay after school tomorrow (until about 3:20) if your child wants extra rehearsal for district choir. ☺ The eighth graders are singing the music in choir, but I know that the seventh graders are on their own with a cd that might be confusing to them if they aren't great music readers.

I will do other rehearsals (maybe some at lunch) when I have time. ☺

This isn't required, but I thought I would offer to help those students. ☺

Macomb Music Shirts and Concert October

Dear Parents,

The Macomb Music Shirts are in! ☺ Mrs. Celestine has worked very hard in organizing, ordering, sorting, and labeling HUNDREDS of shirts for choir and band. We owe her a huge thank you. Her email is cced in case you have any specific questions or problems.

The sixth grade received their shirts yesterday and the junior high students who ordered a shirt will get them this week. When they get their shirts, please have them try them on to make sure that the sizes are correct. ☺ Girls and boys need to wear black pants, shoes, and socks with their shirt. Please, no colored undershirts under the Macomb Music Shirt, only white t shirts should be worn under the shirt if necessary.

Also, the 6-8th grade concert is Tuesday, October 5th at 7:00 pm in Fellheimer Auditorium in Macomb Junior Senior High School. The students are to be there at 6:45 pm for seating. We will not open the auditorium until 6:40 pm, so please do not come too early as the students will not be supervised. This REQUIRED concert is a huge portion of their grade and will conclude in an hour. Parking is usually an issue, so pleas have your child there on time. ☺

We will send a more detailed letter about the concert soon, but we wanted to make sure that you had the date on the calendar.

HS Choir update (September 20-24)

Dear Parents and Students,

  • Please find the attached choir lesson schedule for next week.
  • District Audition preparation – District music auditions are Monday, October 11th (Columbus Day). I will be sending out specific information regarding the day soon. Students should have received a music packet and information on how to access the practice recordings on our website: www.macombchoirs.org (click on "Downloads" and then "Practice recordings") On Friday, September 24th I will have another practice lesson at lunch time and also right after school until 3:40 pm These are optional rehearsals.
  • Rehearsals this week:
    • Monday: Mads after school until 4:00 pm
    • Tuesday: Men's at lunch; Jazz Voices until 4:00 pm
    • Wednesday: Mads after school until 4:00 pm
    • Thursday: Men's at lunch; Jazz Voices until 4:00 pm
    • Friday: District audition help at lunch and from 3:15-3:40 pm

Full Choir on Friday 9/17

Dear Parents,

On occasion, the choir/band students will come to choir an extra day to make the amount of the rehearsal more equitable.

We will tell the students in class, but we also like to keep you apprised of any schedule changes. So, this Friday, September 17th, we will have FULL CHOIR. ☺. So, Band/Choir students will come to choir on Friday.

Review sheet and lessons

Dear parents of 7th and 8th graders,

Attached is a review sheet in a pdf for a small quiz we are having on Tuesday (9/14). It should be a review of things learned previously. The students received it this week in school and we did it in class, but just in case they were absent or wanted clarification, here it is!

Also, next week is a 7th grade lesson week! ☺ I gave them schedule today (band students on their way to band) and choir only students in choir. The schedule is also posted on the back of my choir room door.

Choir Update

Dear Parents and Students,

  • Choir Lessons – Please find the attached schedule for this week's choir lessons. Remember that choir lesson excuse forms are due if a child has missed a lesson. The forms are due within two days of the missed lesson. This week it is an "EIGHTH GRADE" week for lessons (see attached) and seventh grade lessons will be next week. ☺ (Sixth grade students do not have pull out lessons.) ☺
  • Lion King Choir Trip – We had an overwhelming number of students (150) who turned in their permission slips and trip money for The Lion King. Unfortunately, we only have 140 student tickets. Therefore, on we are drawing names in class of 10 students (6-12 grade) who will not be able to attend this year's trip. Those students will receive their original checks back. Please keep in mind that we do take a choir trip each year. ☺ Thank you for your understanding in this matter! If your child's name is drawn and they can't go with the school trip, BROADWAY IN CHICAGO still has tickets available.

  • Choir Lessons – please find the attached schedule for this week's choir lessons. Remember that choir lesson excuse forms are due the Monday (or Tuesday, if Monday is a holiday) after the scheduled lesson.
  • Lion King Choir Trip – We had an overwhelming number of students (150) who turned in their permission slips and trip money for The Lion King. Unfortunately, we only have 140 student tickets.
