Solo and Ensemble Information/Choir Lesson Schedule

February 19, 2010

Dear Parents and Students,

  1. Solo & Ensemble Chaperones needed- The High School Solo and Ensemble Contest is Saturday, March 6th in Barry, IL. We are in need of several chaperones who are willing to take a shift in the homeroom area that day. Also, I could use at least one chaperone to ride the yellow bus. (Think of the bonding time you could have with your child on the bus to and from!) Any and all help is much appreciated!
  2. The choir lesson schedule for next week is attached.

Thanks and have a great weekend!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Butcher

Solo/Ensemble Update

February 18, 2010

Dear Parents of students attending solo/ensemble Contest on Saturday,

  1. First, please remind your child that we are going to have vocal/choral "pre-contest" recitals tomorrow (Friday). They had practice ISATS, today, so I didn't see them to remind them.
The seventh grade recital is 6th hour and the eighth grade recital is 7th hour. Students are to check into their classes for attendance and then go quickly to the auditorium for the recitals. Our priorities will be rehearsing the ensembles, but we will fit in as many solos as possible. Sharon Nott has agreed to be here and can read the solos for anyone wanting to sing.
Parents, you are welcome to come tomorrow (Friday) if you would like. We just ask that you check into the office and realize that this is "informal" as we might have to practice starting and stopping.
  2. Students will receive their bus lists tomorrow. Students must ride the bus to the event but parents (and parents only) can check out their child to bring them home.
  3. We will load by the east doors at 5:45 am and leave at 6:00 am
  4. The students should look nice "dressy casual" would be acceptable.
  5. Parents, we need help monitoring the instruments, books, purses in the Macomb home room. Even if you aren't riding the bus, we would appreciate you "taking a turn" helping in the gym. From noon to 1:00 pm, Mr. Mattsey and I have a required meeting and there are no events scheduled, so we do need "all hands on deck" as misbehavior of our students can get our entire school disqualified.
  6. We highly encourage parents to come and watch the contest.
  7. There will be food available at the event. Students should bring money for this.
  8. Students are to check their and make sure they have their original and that it is numbers. Originals that I have will be in the gym.
  9. Our webmaster, Sean O'Donnell-Brown, put the solo/ensemble schedule on the website in a couple of versions (adobe and excel). Please click on the link and scroll down to "solo/ensemble" (they are listed alphabetically).

Hope this helps your planning!

Thanks!
Erin

Choir Update!

February 12, 2010

Dear Parents and Students,

  1. Thanks to all who donated desserts/money/time to our annual Dessert Auction/Pops Concert! It was a successful event thanks to you!
  2. The Choir lesson schedule for next week is attached.
  3. All State students- Please be sure to turn in your music and return your robe ASAP.
  4. Solo and Ensemble Contest- Saturday, March 6th. We are in need of chaperones: (1) At least one chaperone to ride the yellow bus and (2) Several parents to take shifts in the homeroom area to help watch student's belongings. There are usually several parents at a time who take shifts which allows parents to sneak out and watch their children's events. I expect to get a contest schedule of events/times perhaps next week. If you are interested in helping, please email the times you are available. Thanks! J
  5. Madrigals/Jazz Voices/Men's Ensemble- rehearsals begin back up this week. From now until our concerts/performances, the following will be the rough schedule for these groups: Tuesdays-Men's at lunch and Madrigals at 5:00 pm Thursdays-Jazz Voices after school until 4:00 pm As the concerts/performances get closer, I may need to schedule more rehearsals, but will let you know.

Thanks and have a great 4 day weekend!

February 11, 2010

Dear parents,

Attached is the information for Solo/Ensemble Contest on February 20th, 2010. We will also give copies to the students, but we thought you might like them so that you can plan.

We still need a few folks for the buses. We will have three buses going to Meredosia. Please let us know if you would like to come. Also, if you can't ride the bus, but would like to help watch the homeroom area, we will have a clipboard for volunteers.

Thanks!

Dessert Auction Helpers

February 8, 2010

Dear Parents,

Attached is the duty roster for tonight. Thanks again for all your help. Remember, drop off of your desserts is from 2 – 5:00 pm at the commons. I have cut and pasted the particulars for tonight below. The students are free to leave after they sing. Thanks again!

Melanie & Erin

Food Donations

We are asking you as parents and choir boosters to donate one of your prized, homemade pies or desserts for the event. We do ask that you not bring any cream pies or cream desserts (because we don't have refrigeration available to us). Please drop off your donation in a non-returnable dish to the high school commons between 2:30 and 5:00 pm on Monday, February 8th. Admission for the event is free; however, we hope that you are generous in your bidding for these prized pies and desserts. In preparing your dessert for the event, we like to remind you that presentation is everything for an auction. For example, a simple batched of home baked cookies is transformed when arranged in a decorative basket or platter (realizing that anything you donate won't be returnedJ). It is a great help to the auctioneers if you label the name of the dessert on your donation. Again, we are looking for specialty homemade items that will garner high bids from the audience (not items that are "store bought").

Concessions

We will be selling pizza, subs, and coke products at the event so that you have the opportunity to eat dinner at the auction.

Solo/Ensemble Participants Only

February 3, 2010

Dear parents,

If your child is going to solo/ensemble, this email pertains to you.

  • Just confirming that the solo/ensemble contest is Saturday, February 20th is in Meredosia-Chamberburg There were a couple of changes in location due to facility availability and consolidations, and the like. So, Meredosia is the site. Sorry for any confusion.
  • We will need parents to ride the buses and take turns watching the instruments and music in the homeroom area. So, if you love riding the yellow bus, here is your chance. We don't have a leave time yet, but you can bet it will be dark early!
  • All vocal events need to be memorized. Students cannot leave class to come to lessons at times, due to missing important instructional time. ISATS are around the corner, so the students have to practice on their own. I am meeting with them as much as possible, but the ultimate memory and preparation is their responsibility.
  • Accompanist. Please make sure that your soloists are meeting with their accompanist. They should not wait until the week of the contest to schedule a coaching.

Please reply back if you are willing to ride the yellow bus on the 20th. It is a great bonding time with your child!

Thanks!

Help Supervising Sixth Graders on February 8th

February 2, 2010

Dear parents,

If you haven't turned in a pink sheet to help at the concert/dessert auction … here is your chance! I need a few brave parents to help monitor the sixth graders in the choir room at the high school until we can get there.

They would have to be at the HS choir room a little before six (5:50 pm) for their 6:00 pm call. I will get there as soon as I can. I warm them up and then I take them to the commons for their 6:30 performance.

Any takers…

Thanks!
