Members present: John Meixner, Erin Stegall, Melanie Butcher, Donella Anderson, Cheryl Baker, Sheryl Hansen, Cindy Roon, Marilyn Olsen, Jamie Lane
The meeting was called to order by president John Meixner. The minutes from the February meeting were read by Jamie Lane, approved by Melanie Butcher and seconded by Donella Anderson. John asked that the future minutes be forwarded to him and Sean O'Donnell-Brown once they are approved by the Erin and Melanie.
Donella submitted the treasurer's report with copies for every one to review. Several suggestions were presented to improve the dessert auction next year:
Cindy reported that sales of pizza and sub sandwiches were down from last year—less were ordered, and there were still left-overs. Cindy offered to help with the dessert auction again next year. The treasurer's report was approved by Erin and seconded by Marilyn. Some one mentioned that the students had been complaining about having to stand on the risers during the auctioning. Melanie said that she was aware of this, but that if she lets them sit, she thinks that they will talk more.
Erin gave a report on the Jr High Solo and Ensemble Contest and was very pleased with the results and the personal growth in individual students. Erin said that the only problem was with some of the judges. She has written to the organizer about this and would like to help hire judges for next year. Melanie stated that the choir bus will be leaving for Barry on Saturday, March 6th at 6:15 and will return home at 5:30-6:00 pm. She has 30-35 soloists and 15-17 ensembles planning to attend(approx 80 students in all).
Melanie said that the Billy Elliot itinerary will be sent out soon along with the seating chart for the bus.
The Jr High (5/1) and high school (4/16) Organizational Contests are on schedule. Cheryl McGowen and Barb Coker have offered to organize the Jr high event. The high school contest still needs someone to organize the volunteers. Also we are still looking for someone to take charge of concessions for both events. Melanie will check with Dave Bartlett for suggestions. Some one suggested that the After Prom committee may want to work for this event.
Melanie and Erin said that they will be needing money soon to purchase medals for Spring Awards Assemblies. The Sr High medals will be given out at the Spring Choir Concert, and the Jr High medals will be handed out at the 8th grade awards program. Melanie mentioned that possibility of having choir letters as was brought up last year. She thinks the start up costs might be about $600. She will consult Rita Dorothy (Dave Bartlett's secretary) about the section in the activity book on awards.
Under directors' comments, Erin said that Mrs John had donated $300 to the Edison music program. Melanie said that WIU music camp information will be out online soon. If a student did not attend Solo and Ensemble contest, they will need to audition to get into camp. A big bonus of attending the WIU camp is that Dr Stegall teaches the students the District music pieces.
The next meeting will be held on April 1st.
