Macomb Choir Boosters Monthly Meeting Minutes, September 2009

Members present: John Meixner, Melanie Butcher, Erin Stegall, Donella Anderson, Kathy Burdick, Sheryl Hansen, Cheryl McGowan, Jamie Lane, Sean O'Donnell-Brown, Marilyn Olsen, Becca Pettit, Dee Kirwan, Peppi Kenny, Carol Pircon, and Katie Musick

The meeting was called to order by President John Meixner at 5:00 pm The secretary's report from May 14, 2009 was read by Jamie Lane and approved by Kathy Burdick and seconded by Carol Pircon.

The treasurer's report was presented by Donella Anderson. Expenditures this month were $490.80 and deposits were $2,695.00, including 87 memberships for this year. A detailed copy of all expenses and deposits were handed out to present members. The report was approved by Kathy Burdick and seconded by Cheryl McGowan.

Donella had also typed up and handed out a list of potential committee volunteers who had signed up on their membership forms. John will use this list to try to fill the remaining committee chair vacancies, and will add new names to his email list for the Choir Boosters.

Erin Stegall reported that Nick Page will be returning from October 21-23rd, and will be staying at the Hampton Inn. The cost will be $3,000. Lincoln School will help with expenses and Edison's contribution is pending. An MEF grant will also help to pay the expenses. Nick will give a concert on Wed eve, Oct 21st at 7:00 pm for the Jr/Sr high school students and families in the Fellheimer Auditorium. A concert will be held on Oct 22nd at 6:30 pm for students up to 6th grade at Fellheimer. He will also present 5 classroom sessions and 2 school assemblies. Marilyn Olsen said that she will save extra cookies from the fall choir concert to serve after the Nick Page concert on Wednesday.

Dee Kirwan has ordered 102 band and choir shirts and has several used shirts on hand too. It was suggested that some used shirts could be sold for a reduced price. Students who need a larger shirt can return their old shirt in good condition and trade it for a larger shirt.

Under new business, Melanie reported that the spring musical this year will hopefully be the Tony Award winning Billy Elliott in Chcago. We are on a waiting list until early October. The possible dates for the musical are April 24th or 25th.

The Olympic Choral Conference will be held at WIU on October 26th. Students will leave for WIU after lunch and will stay until after the evening concert. Volunteers are needed to stay with the students all day but especially over the dinner hour. An email will be sent out for volunteers.

Sheryl Hansen will be the chair of the poinsettia sale committee again. She said that Niemans has quoted her a great price. It was suggested that next year we should seek bids from other local stores as well. Sheryl agreed to do this. Sales will start on Oct 27th and orders will be collected on Tues, Nov 10th. Delivery will be on Tues Dec 1st. A sign up sheet was passed around for workers from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm Our December meeting will be held on the stage (where the poinsettias are picked up) on Dec 1st at 5:00 pm.

Melanie said that her small keyboard that she uses for bus trips has broken and she needs to replace it by Oct 12th. Also Erin could use an ipod with speakers to play music in the class. A proposal was made to contribute up to $200 for each of these items. This was approved by Kathy Burdick and seconded by Becca Pettit.

Erin followed up with a report on last year's purchases: 1) no folio cabinet was needed this year; 2) two new electric pencil sharpeners were purchased; 3) the Superscope was repaired and returned; 4) the lost tape recorder was found; and 5) no microphone cords or headphones are needed at this time.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:45 by John Meixner. Minutes were submitted by Jamie Lane, secretary.
